SEO Files, Sitemaps, and OG Images

TailStatic is designed to handle the technical aspects of SEO automatically, so you can focus on creating pages and content. It generates several key files and tags that help search engines and social media platforms understand your site.

Automated SEO Files

For every site you publish, TailStatic creates:

  • sitemap.xml: A map of all your published pages, helping search engines index your site more efficiently. Your sitemap is accesssible at the URL https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml

  • robots.txt: Directives for search engine crawlers, telling them which parts of your site they can or cannot visit. You can customize this file from site configuration screen. Your robots file is accesssible at the URL https://yourdomain.com/robots.txt

  • llms.txt: A specialized file for AI crawlers and large language models, providing a clean version of your content for better AI understanding. You can customize this file from site configuration screen. Your llms is accesssible at the URL https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt

Social Media (Open Graph) Support

TailStatic includes full support for Open Graph (OG) tags and Twitter Cards from your liquid views.

  • Metadata: TailStatic automatically generates title, description, and URL tags for every page based on your front-matter.
  • OG Image Generation: If you have TailStatic tools running, TailStatic can automatically render custom social media images for your .og.liquid pages. The OG images are saved in images/og directory of your site. Note that if your page does not have it's specific og liquid template, it falls back to site's default OG template index.og.liquid

OG images can be accessed using two URLs.

  • https://yourdomain.com/og?p=<page_path>/<page_name>

Note that second URL will generate an image if it doesn't exist.

Managing SEO Settings

While much of this is automatic, you can override the defaults in each site's settings and each page. To customize page level JSON-LD schema and OG tags, click on Schema tab on top of editor to toggle schema pane. Update settings and click save. The updated schema is saved in page's data file.
